Now coming back to the Dato Wee Jeck Seng, the then Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Challenge Trophy. MYDF forerunner MPDC had approached the then Deputy Minister to contribute and lend his name to the Malaysian ranking Challenge Trophy. The kind Minister donated two Challenge trophy to MPDC and financially supported the ranking partially from the Ministry and also from his own pocket. MYDF are grateful to Dato Wee Jeck Seng for his kind contribution.
The Challenge Trophy as the name suggest are meant for Malaysian Grade A athletes who participated in the National Ranking to acknowledge that they are the Champion for that competition. Like in previous year the overall winner gets to keep the trophy after they win the most out of five (5) National Ranking.
The previous overall winner that kept the Challenge trophy were Michael Yong & Janet Gooi (Latin American), Anthony Chua and Anita Tan (Standard). They won all three (3) National Championship in a row and deservedly kept the challenge trophy. At that time it was called the OCM Challenge Trophy.
Year 2010 was the start of the next season of the National ranking. The first National Championship was held on the 18th of April 2010. Alfred & Cecilia won the first MPDC National Ranking and they were handed the Challenge trophy for Latin American. Anthony Chua and Anita Tan had no problems whatsoever to return the Standard Challenge Trophy to MYDF before the 2nd National ranking. The understanding has always been that the Challenge trophy are to be returned to the organisers before the 2nd National Ranking.
The 2nd National Ranking was held on the 16th day of January 2011 in Muar, Johore. I was reliably informed that the President Mr. George Tan has personally tried to contact both of them by phone and e-mail, months before the ranking to return the Challenge Trophy, but to no avail.
The 2nd National Ranking proceeded and Chua Zjen Fong and Evon Chong emerged the National Champion. It is highly regrettable that they were unable to lift the actual Challenge trophy, but to acknowledge that they are the Champion, the organisers have to borrow the Standard Challenge trophy for them to lift for the record.
Even after the event, the President of MYDF tried to contact Alfred Choo and Cecilia Yong to return the Challenge trophy so that it could be passed to the new MYDF National Champions, Chua Zjen Fong & Evon Chong.
Personally I can understand the pride of winning, I can understand that to lift the coveted Dato Wee Jeck Seng Challenge Trophy is an acknowledgment of their hard work and achievement. To lift the Challenge Trophy in the MPDC/MYDF Championship even once speaks volumes on your ability. It is commonly acknowledge that you are judged by a fair panel of International IDSF adjudicators from local and overseas. Most of all, the Challenge Trophy cannot be obtained by means of manipulation and bribe.
However as the name suggest this is a challenge trophy, the winners are only given the license to keep and return it to MPDC before the next National ranking. They have failed to do so.
To cling on to the challenge trophy is really pointless, in bad taste and reflect poorly on them. In the event if they have a problem or a question to ask, they can always contact the President George Tan, which they never did.
Whatever this ugly incident serve as a record of what poor sportsmanship is all about. Sigh!

I read the MYDF web page , they are also suspended from dancing in any IDSF/ADSF competition. The Trophy is another matter and since they join WDC/BDFI competition, they should return the trophy to MYDF.
What is the point of keeping a trophy? It is a privilege to hold it when one wins it fair and square. It is symbol of pride and achievement when displayed by the rightful winner otherwise it is display of shame when it is coveted illegitimately.
I wonder how do they teach the kids nowadays? In our times, kids get whacked by their parents for keeping things that do not belong to them. Ouch!

Suspension from dancing in IDSF/ADSF competition is due to their participation in unsanctioned competitions. The coveting of the challenge trophy is another different matter. What should be done in such scandalous situation? By the way skydancer4, can the rightful champions file a court order?

Chua spoke to me and asked me about the trophy, I told him of the situation that MYDF is put in for the failure of getting the trophy back. He understands MYDF predicament, and like a true sportsman he mentioned that it would be good if they can return the challenge trophy so that they can also display it in their studio or house.

Dear Anonymous 6.38 a.m.You have asked a fair question as to why we use the same Singapore judges. Let me explain that in a National ranking we do not need to use international IDSF adjudicators. We can use all local Grade A adjudicators to run the competition. You noticed that I used the term Grade A. Grade A adjudicators are those adjudicators that have vast experience in dancesport or those with professional qualifications but does not have the two Congress that is required to be an IDSF adjudicator. Grade B are Dance teachers or retired Dance athletes who are new in adjudicating and are working to get their professional qualification to join or promoted to be an MYDF Grade A adjudicators.
Now in the Muar ranking there are 7 adjudicators. One from Hong Kong, and he is the Professional Hong Kong Dancesport President and 3 from Singapore and 3 from Malaysia.
Why Singapore? The reason is they are near Malaysia, and if you noticed the 3, Robert Ong is the President of SGDF, Michael Lim and Sabrina Ong they are all IDSF International adjudicators.
In MYDF National ranking George Tan felt that it is important to have international IDSF adjudicator, he wants to preserve the integrity of the competition. Why Singapore, the costs saving is also important. If we fly in say from Thailand or anywhere in the world IDSF regulation says that you have to pay them Board , allowance and air fare. Perhaps one day if MYDF have bigger funding we can invite others. Until then MYDF feels that the integrity of the competition is more important. Apart from your remarks which is fair , we have so far nor received complaints that the MYDF competition are unfair.
Further to my posting, the organisers have to pay an IDSF International adjudicator at least USD200 per day and reimburse their air fare economy class and their accommodations.
I hope you do not think I am naughty, and I am serious. In the IDSF regulations you cannot contra the adjudicators fees. By that I mean you cannot tell the adjudicators, to take say one dinner table tickets and tell him what you sell is your fees. The other point is in MYDF, the fact that you can dance you cannot automatically be an adjudicator. If you have lots of money and are willing to sponsor an event I am sorry , you have to go through the process.NOW you know why MYDF have a shortage of adjudicators.

Were the Singapore judges ever in competition? How come no one ever heard of them winning any titles.
I feel it is important for judges to have competition at Grade A before to be able to judge properly.
Anon 11.48, As to your point an adudicator must have participated in competition is good and it can also be not so good.First you have to understand that Dancesport judging is subjective, take the time to see the detail results in some international competition and you will see great discrepancies. Leaving dishonesty aside, really it is a matter of taste.
On this IDSF have introduced the new judging sysyem based on the International Skating Union. The system is based on 9 addudicators and the highest and lowest mark are taken off. You average the rest.
Juding now is now getting a bit more "precise" by that I mean there are criteria attached to you giving the points. It is on poise, musicality, connection and 2 more that I cannot recall. Under the 5 heads there are sub headings where you award points.
You see if you are a dancer, you will have a preconceive idea what a good rumba is all about, but a non dancer who has not competed knows what a rumba is but based his decision on fix criteria on how it is to be danced. You have raised a good point that perhaps I would Blog on it. This was extensively discussed in an IDSF Congress conducted by Peter Maxwell a few years ago. If I can locate it I may post it on the Blog. At the end of the day it is still a matter of personal preference excersised with no dishonest intent. That is all we ask from an IDSF adjudicator or for that matter all adjudicators.
